The movie follows the story of Belle (played by Emma Watson), a beautiful and intelligent young woman who lives in a small French village. She's ostracized by the community for her love of reading and her independent nature. When her father, Maurice (played by Kevin Kline), gets lost in the forest, he seeks shelter in a nearby castle, where he's imprisoned by the Beast (played by Dan Stevens).
