The movie begins with Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) waking up on her birthday in 1998, only to be involved in a fatal car accident. However, she miraculously survives, but with an unusual side effect - she stops aging. The film then jumps forward to 2015, where Adaline is living a solitary life, working as a librarian, and keeping her condition a secret.
