The movie begins with a group of U.S. Army soldiers, including Big Bob (Michael Bailey), Ethel (Elena Anaya), and their two children, Brenda and Jimmy, who are on a training exercise in the desert. They are on their way to a training facility when their vehicle breaks down. As they try to fix it, they are attacked by a family of mutants, who are known as the Carter family.
